My dad is ok now, he has help, but it don’t change anything that happend. Or the fact that he is dying.

Drinking really is …
Drinking really is fun. AA is a cult. There is probably no God or gods or magical fairies. But yes, drinking is not healthy obviously, and you shouldn’t get drunk in front of your kids. Also stopping drinking is not a miracle- many people stop drinking by simply not drinking. I know that might sound amazing but you do not need magic and unicorns to change your behavior.

…and he’s showing symptoms of kidney failure already, so…we really don’t know what we’re going to do. I made a promise to myself a LONG time ago that I would never smoke, drink, or do drugs. It’s not worth it.

My dad went to rehab when I was 9 because he felt guilty being drunk all the time when he had kids. Unfortunately he relapsed eight years later and is worse than ever. He’s smokes and drinks and plays SecondLife 16 straight hours a day and won’t look for a job and refuses to get help. We’re moving out at the end of the month because we’re tired of it. We understand that he’s sick and we’ll be there if he needs us, but right now, it’s just too much…

i will never drink alochol in my life becuz of the lessons i have learned from him…
my dad is an alocholic. he has been arrested for DUI 2 times. and once i was in the car when it happened!!! me and my mom had 2 wait in the police station to 12 am!!! i am only 11. it is really hard to cope with. he isn’t supposed to be drinking but he still does!! but my mom is always there for me she has no problems she is my shoulder to cry on!! but i dont know if i can love my father or not!!1

my mom did drugs and smoked and im 12 and she would buy drugs with me in the car and she quit but im not living with her and i dont know my dad i live with my grandma and i know exactly how you feel!!

Very true, I’m so sorry for what you went through hand I’m so happy you learned, it’s amazing what our parents need to go through sometimes … and now we know and we need to not hide this from our kids too so that they can know… your message is so honest, we need God… it’s difficult and in so many way it is so selfish but hating and hurting won’t help us right? Best of luck, honey. Try some counciling, don’t rely simply on going to A.A. There is no cure in A.A, although it’s a big help at the start.
