Never drinking vs Moderate Careful consumption of Alcohol. Which is better?

I hear that drinking a small amount of an alcoholic beverage is actually good for you.

My question is whether I'd be healthier never drinking ever in my entire life, or by consuming a small amount everyday.

if u drink a little red wine every day it will help u

Where did you hear it from?
I think never drinking would be better than moderate drinking. Moderate drinking can evolve into heavy drinking very fast.

Moderation is the key, if you don't want to drink, fine, but if you gonna do it, be moderate. Many things can be done with moderation.

Well many studies show that by taking a weekly dosage of a glass of wine, its actually better for your health in comparison to drinking nothing at all. Obviously there is a balance in everything, so too much of even the healthiest thing isn't good for you.

if you are young, don't drink at all because your brain is developing you are more likely to become alcohol dependent. but if you are in your 50's it's good to drink a moderate amount of alcohol because it can raise the level of good cholesterol and thin out blood.

Well I think its a personal choice.. Yes knowing when to stop and when enough is enough is very important. I know plenty of people who have never picked up a drink in their life and they are fine. As far as health goes you can live without it. Them major part of drinking is the responsibility it entails…. If you drink you impare you thought and reaction times. So with that said if you Drink .. Do it right minded and responsible as the comercials say.. and Never Never drink and drive. i hope this help you Good luck *hugz*

I would say don't until necessary. Like beer is good in moderation for urinary tract infections, wine is good for the heart in small doses. There is still a chance that it could go from moderate to hardcore drinking, that is if you have no self control of the situation. I'd say it could be either way…. hard decision.

Both have advantages. It's true that medical science has shown moderate alcohol use to be beneficial in some cases. It is also true that if you don't ever drink, you will not be tempted or driven to excessive drink which is very well known to be harmful and can be in profound ways. The choice is yours to make but abstinence is the better bet.

Well, drinking red wine is good for the heart. It helps lower cholesterol and blood pressure amongst other things. However, alcohol period is consider to be a leader for many illness.Such as cancer and well we can't forget of a bad hang over. Then again, who doesn't do 'bad things' every once in a while. My own personal opinion is to drink a little red wine, ofcourse not ever day, when driving or operating any machinery. Hey, if your at home at a party enjoy yourself with a few sips. Trust me it won't hurt.

Your body needs a bit of rough housing I think, I would say people who drink a bit and have the odd hangover would be more capable of dealing with illnesses than those who dont.

Its like if your house is too clean its meant to be bad for your immune system so my advice is to have the odd drink and maybe go out once every few months and get properly wasted coz the way I see it if you can deal with a hangover ul be able to cope better if u get seriously ill

    Hope this helps :)

you will not be healthier either way, yes a small amount of alcohol IS good but many of the same beneficial elemants are also found in grape juice as in red wine.
however you wont be any unhealthier either.
Drink in moderation because you want to, most people do, I enjoy a cold beer on a hot afternoon or a glass if wine with dinner. but I dont do it for health reasons.

    that remains to be seen.
your asking a loaded question that real experts (the people on yahoo answers are not) would disagree over. the antioxidants found in red wine are great, but on the other hand alcohol raises your triglyceride level considerably.
temperance in anything is the best choice.
if you like alcohol, then have a drink.
if you dont, dont drink it to be healthier. there are certainly much better things to do than have a glass of red wine. walk your dog, jog, swim, lift weights etc…

    Search about the "French Paradox".

Basically studies have found that people in France, while eating really fatty foods have a lower instance of heart disease. This has been attributed to drinking Red wine in moderation and daily.

Moderation is the key. You drink a glass of red wine a night to get the resveratrol and you will be fine. The problem lies with drinking to get drunk.

My key for moderation is to drink better wines so enjoying the flavor and complexity of the wine far outweigh getting drunk.
