I need some tips on how to control my drinking.?

I can admit it, sometimes I am not a good drunk! But I am 22 so all my friends still like to go out and drink. I am looking for some pointers on how to control my drinking. We are going camping this weekend and I want to keep my drinking to a min. but Im worried about peer pressure and being the party pooper. Any tips. Please only serious answers, I know this is kind of a lame question.

There’s nothing wrong with being the only sober person at a party. Every party needs at least one person in their right mind to take control in case an emergency arises and I can tell you from experience, plenty of emergencies can arise when you get a bunch of drunks together. Be the responsible person and volunteer to stay straight while your friends party. Keep in mind that you have a responsibility to your friends and it should make it easier to control the urge to join them…..This is not a lame question. Many people struggle with this every day and it’s good that you recognize that you aren’t a "good drunk" and are looking for ways to control yourself. Good luck and be safe this weekend.

My boyfriend has liver disease caused by Hep C & chronic alcoholism - What can I expect? (symptoms, etc)?

He was told about 3 years ago that he had hep C, chirrosis and he is a chronic alcoholic. Dr told him to quit or he would die. He has tried and failed several times ( I know he’s not trying hard enough…. ) . I just want to know what to expect. He is tired all the time, has headaches, and is depressed - Is this part of it? Also I have heard that mood swings are common to this, is that true? I posted a similar question earlier but felt I needed to clarify…. I appriciate any info I can get! Thanks!
I appriciate the replies but I am looking for real answers not opinions on the relationship….. we have been together for many years, it’s not something simple to walk away from…..

Hepatitis C is the inflammation of the liver cells
caused by a virus. Cirrhosis is death of the
liver cells. His disease can be brought on by
the Hep C or his drinking problem. Trying to
quit drinking on his own is extremely difficult.
He needs to go into a detox program at a
hospital in order to do this. The symptoms
he has from trying to stop drinking may be
too much to handle…they can give him drugs
to lessen these symptoms and help him get
through it much better. The symptoms that you
stated are normal. You have to realize that
he is now facing death straight on and he has
to make decisions on what he can do now.
Depression is normal now, because of having
to live with all these hurdles to go over to
save his life. Waking up everyday knowing
that you may die is very hard.
Liver patients are usually in shock when they
first hear they have a terrible disease like this.
The first reaction is unbelief…then it moves
where they try to do something to help
themselves, if it is possible…it leads from
there to either coming to terms with the
disease and trying to fight it or just giving up.
They need alot of support and understanding
at this time. They get mad and they feel
helpless and they feel like someone cheated
them or played a dirty trick on them or they
feel like saying "why me". Others people drink and they don’t have this. Cirrhosis can be caused by many different things.

Your boyfriend doesn’t have a rosey future and
he knows that. He also knows that if he wants
to spend time with the people he loves he has
to do it now. I’m going to explain a few things
to you. Once there is death of the liver
cells it forms scar tissue in the liver…this blocks
the other normal healthy cells from receiving
nourishment and oxygen and causes them to
die also. This is a progressing disease and
the only real option he has now, if he has
cirrhosis, is being evaluated and placed on the
transplant list for an organ. But, first he has
to overcome his addiction of alcohol which
he needs to get care in order to do. A
person has to be free of alcohol for at least
six months before he can be placed on the
list for transplantation.

There are symptoms that may start to develop
with this disease that he may or may not
show signs of. Some of them are listed in
this short article.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003895.htm

If he wants to stay with his loved ones longer,
than he needs to stop drinking now. He is
causing his liver much more damage faster
and it will lead to a much much earlier death.

Having others around him who truly care about
him, will make whatever course he decides on
alot easier on him. You cannot make decisions
for him, but you can be there to support him
with all he does. Best Wishes

Dept. of Veteran Affairs, What can they do to help with Alcoholism?

Will they just pass out medications and steer you to a AA meeting or can they admit you for like 30 days for treatment? Any help or suggestions would really help.

Well I suggest you practise some sport, may be …swim or Karate, this will force you to have a health life and to will heat the alcohol.

You don´t need medicine, you just need your mind and be a strong with your character, this just can do it the sport, discipline.

Clean your mind, clean your body and begin a new life until you can be in magazines like model.

Regards.

can you get anemic from drinking a moderate quantity of coffee(a coffee cup a day)?

my body is lacking iron and i really wanna know if it’s from the coffee

It’s not the coffee but an easy way to cure Anemia is a cheeseburger, a steak or an iron suppliment.

"Coffee interferes with the absorption of iron. However, moderate intake of coffee (4 cups per day) may not increase the risk of iron-deficiency anemia if the diet contains adequate amounts of iron and vitamin C."

HOW TO MODERATE YOUR DRINKING

Dr. Arnold M. Washton– internationally known addiction psychologist, book author, and substance abuse treatment expert– discusses moderation strategies that can be used by nonalcoholic problem drinkers to reduce their alcohol consumption to safer levels and prevent alcohol-related consequences.

How to avoid throwing up and a hangover while drinking?

i’m going to a party on friday and i’ll be drinking.
i only do shots. i’ll prolly do jager or vodka.
the last time i drank, i got wayyyyy out of control,
and i drank half a bottle of brandy and threw up.
i do NOT have a problem, that’s never happened before.
usually i only have two or three shots.

BUUUUT, how should i avoid getting sick?

Also, how can i avoid a hangover?

Crazy Horse is right about the water its all about pacing yourself. Don’t get into the old shot contest, if you start to feel dizzy it’s water time for a while. Two hours before your going to drink have a Gyros. just onions NO sauce, absolutly no dairy products like ice cream, milk yougert, etc. cheese on a pizza is ok………… P-A-C-E- Y-O-U-R-S-E-L-F don’t let any one taunt you into drinking more than your pace….

Alcoholic needs booze at 5 am to stop withdrawel symptoms, how would they detox and get to rehab?

Just curious. My sister-in-law Deanna is the mother of 4 kids, two adults, two minors. Her alcoholism has progressed a lot in the past 3 years since I first met her until now. The kids tell me that now she is having to get up and drink early in the morning to manage all of her withdrawel symptoms. I don’t think she is going to get help, but i’m curious about how would someone this advanced detox and get help? Please share a story, or any information that you know about this. Thanks in advance.
just looking for answers to the question, not so much for my sis-in-law as she will never get treatment - intervention won’t work, long family history, gets drunk daily with hubby, kids, and her mother. Yes, I’ve called everyone under the sun about protection for kids - no response. I’ve been told being an alcoholic isn’t a crime by childrens protective services and law enforcement. Just curious if she did get help, the medical side of what would be necessary to get her detoxed and into a rehab. Thanks much for all the answers!

i’m a recovering alcoholic. she needs to go to a detox treatment facility. they will detox her there with medication so she doesn’t get to sick. after about 3 to7 days they will send her to a inhouse treatment facility for about 90 days. hope this helps.

I need a visual aid for a speech on alcoholism?

My main points are behavioral and physical symptoms and treatment options.

Two pictures. One of a bum and one of a business person. BOTH are alcoholics!

Alcoholism is a disorder that effects all classes of citizens…
