Where can I find information about alcoholism treatment programs, doctors, professional people who will help?

Where can I find information about alcoholism treatment programs, doctors, professional people who will help? We live in LA, CA. My brother is alcoholic- he had family, kid and because of the alcoholism he lost everything what he had. I need to find a doctor (good one)who will help to him to became a normal person (this is a first time when he asked for help). Please recommend me a professional doctor who will help us with this problem.

I commend you in trying to help your brother - just remember - he is in charge of his own destiny.
Therefore I decided to give you a little information on Al-Anon - for loved ones trying to help; like yourself.

Who are the members of Al-Anon and Ala teen?
Al-Anon and Ala teen members are people just like you and me–people who have been affected by someone else’s drinking. They are parents, children, spouses, partners, brothers, sisters, other family members, friends, employers, employees, and coworkers of alcoholics. No matter what our specific experience has been we share a common bond: we feel our lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking.

Is my view tainted or is there alcoholism?

A fellow employee is chronically late, phones in sick on Mondays and avoids contact with others until around noon. I am concerned that she may be hung over and wonder about offering help before she loses her job.

I worry she may be insulted if there is no problem with alcohol and wonder if my view is tainted because I have seen others with alcohol abuse show the same symptoms and behaviours. Do you think she abuses alcohol? What should I do?

refer her to an EAP program if your company has one…or help her to see what others might infer from their observations of her behavior….just ask if she is all right because you are worried about her, letting her know what you see…letting her know that if you can see it so can the bosses.

How can I keep weight off and drink a moderate amount of beer?

I like to have one or two 16 oz beers after work, but i have started to gain a big beer belly. Are there any exercises I can do to specifically keep this weight off without cutting out my couple of beers? I understand I am an alcoholic, I just don’t want to be a fat one.

Drink light beer and do it while you are jogging.

Does anyone know if drinking alcohol effects your birth control?

I was just wondering this because in the warning section it talks about smoking but not alcohol. I just wanted to know if anyone knew if drinking alcohol while your taking birth control effects it?
I know it impairs judgement I just want to know if my pill wont work because of it.

No alcohol shouldn’t effect your birth control the only thing that I know of that effects your birth control is antibiotics

Alcoholism?

I’m a former alcoholic. I went for 3 months without a drop of alcohol but started drinking again 2 days ago and I am having far too much. How can I cut down without getting withdrawal symptoms?

There is no such thing as a "former" alcoholic. You ARE an alcoholic and you can’t afford to drink. You should check out AA–there’s most likely a meeting somewhere near you many hours of the day and night, 365 days a year. Go. LISTEN. Find a sponsor and work the program.

You will have withdrawal symptoms–as the blood alcohol level decreases in your blood it will trigger physiological changes. You will be with people who will understand and have been there–as well as some who are capable of giving you a guided tour of Hell where they’ve spent a lot of time. You need that kind of support and hopefully you’ll learn from their experiences.

No one needs alcohol to live or live a good life so you will be losing nothing and gaining a lot by deciding each day, and sometimes each minute, right now I shall not drink.

God bless.

Do you think that there will be better treatments for alcoholism in the future. I would say that we are in the?

infancy of treatments for alcoholism and there will be many new forms of treatments in the future.
I would say that we are very poor at treating alcoholism at this time and I am hopefull that there will be better treatments in the future

As alcoholism is a mental and physical addiction, rather than a disease, it is difficult to treat - you can’t just prescribe someone antibiotics after all. Treating it is difficult because there are many different basic causes for alcoholism, and so mental treatment for the addiction is different for everyone. We’re never going to have a cure that works for everyone that can just be rolled out, and it’s always going to take time. Maybe the psychological treatments etc. will improve, but we’re never going to get to the point where we just prescribe a pill and hey, you’re no longer addicted.

What are really the effects of moderate teen drinking?

Negative and possibly positive effects…long term and short term effects..?

The immediate effects are loss of inhibitions and coordination, which for a teenager aren’t desirable because even without alcohol, teens can be persuaded to do things they don’t want to rather easily. Short term would be irritability and lethargy and long term is neurological damage. The brain is still developing until the age of about 21 so alcohol could impair this.

What is “outpatient care” for behavioral addiction?

Outpatient services are quite a bit broader than inpatient services. If you’re looking for a particular orientation, be it more eastern, more cognitive behavioral for that matter, the choices are much broader than residential. The choices, therefore, lie everything from one on one individual therapy to group therapies that meet once a week, to support groups such as Smart Recovery or Moderation Management or, you know, the twelve step approach. Or there are very formalized outpatient programs, we go one, two, three hours a day, three, four days a week for 3 to 6 months. So the range is quite large and it is very helpful to stay involved. These addictions are not cured with a shot or any medication, they’re cured through practice of doing things, doing life another way. For more information visit http://www.aaalternatives.com

Introduction To A Night Of Heavy Drinking

The introduction song to the rest of the new set of songs sets up what kind of music and lyrics you’ll be hearing for the rest of the show. It’s basically about getting hurt, deciding you don’t care, going out with some friends to forget somebody, realizing you’ll never forget and that after everything you still love them, but they still hurt you and you need to reconcile that.
