The King of Drugs!

Daily Alcohol Can Lead to Binge Drinking
Sipping wine, beer, or spirits three to four times a week increases the risk of binge drinking, particularly among young men, according to a new study published in the journal Addiction.

Researchers from the University of Montreal and the University of Western Ontario analyzed the drinking habits of Canadians and found that frequent alcohol consumption can lead to binge drinking among all gender and age groups.

Infrequent drinkers rarely exceed two servings when they do consume alcoholic beverages, they found.

“The relationship between drinking frequency and consumption per occasion might be both cultural and biological,” said study coauthor Andrée Demers, a University of Montreal sociology professor and director of the Research Group on the Social Aspects of Health and Prevention. “The Canadian drinking culture has a ‘time-out’ depiction of drinking. Alcohol is a boundary mark between week and weekend, work and leisure, and therefore between routine and time off.”

The investigation established one drink as 5 ounces of wine; 1.5 ounces of liquor; 12 ounces of beer or cooler; 3 ounces of port, sherry, or vermouth. Regardless of drinking preferences, the study found that many Canadians consume alcoholic beverages on a daily basis to experience its mood-altering effects.

“Regular drinking builds up tolerance. Therefore daily drinkers will need more than their usual drink or two to make a difference with everyday life and gain that festive feeling,” said lead author Catherine Paradis, a University of Montreal Ph.D. candidate. “That fosters drinking beyond healthy limits — at least sporadically and perhaps weekly — to five drinks or more per occasion. And five units is above the recommended limits of healthy drinking.

“There is no clear and universal understanding of what is moderate drinking. Its meaning varies between cultures and within cultures according to gender, age, socio-economic status and people’s self-reported tolerance. Since regular drinking could increase alcohol abuse, Canadian drinking guidelines should take this aspect of the drinking pattern into account.”

Dial-the-Truth Ministries began in June of 1990 in Pinson, Alabama. It started as a recorded message on an answering machine. The messages contain documented information and are designed to get the listeners attention to present the gospel of Jesus Christ. Because the messages are available 24 / 7, people could call and listen to the messages at their convenience. We now use a custom voice system utilizing a Dialogic board running on a computer. The phone number for the messages is (205) 680-9206. The Lord did some amazing things with so little! Many normally “unreachable” souls have gotten saved and passed from death unto life! People from all walks of life: Satanists; homosexuals; prostitutes; people in prison; people involved in cults; and many people just “confused or hurting” who just needed someone to talk to and didn’t know where to turn. People the church would have a hard time reaching. But it’s easy, private and simple to pick up the phone and hear a recorded message. After receiving many requests for copies of the phone messages, we began printing the phone messages as tracts. For the last 10 years, we have printed and distributed thousands and thousands of tracts and booklets. In 1995, we traveled onto the Internet. The Lord has really blessed this part of the ministry. We average over 100,000 visitors everyday on our web site. Because of the large bandwidth traffic, we have outgrown several web hosts and currently require two separate ISP providers to handle the load. To hear a Dial-the-Truth Message — call (205) 680-9206. (NOTE: This is NOT a toll-free number). http://www.av1611.org/index.html Images from The Light of the World - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcz25mkXl1M English Chick Cartoon Tracts - http://www.chick.com/catalog/tractlist.asp Chick Publications P.O. Freedom To Choose | Alcoholics Anonymous | Alcoholism | DonInLondon | Don Oddy |

Freedom Of Choice is Paramount

M Scott Peck, who has died aged 69[2005], was a psychiatrist and author of The Road Less Travelled, the ultimate self-help manual, which has sold some 10 million copies and which set a record for a nonfiction book by spending more than eight years on the New York Times bestseller list.

Its opening sentence, “Life is difficult”, introduced a tome which argued, uncontentiously and sensibly, that human experience was trying and imperfectible, and that only self-discipline, delaying gratification, acceptance that one’s actions have consequences, and a determined attempt at spiritual growth could make sense of it. By contrast, Peck himself was, by his own admission, a self-deluding, gin-sodden, chain-smoking neurotic whose life was characterised by incessant infidelity and an inability to relate to his parents or children. “I’m a prophet, not a saint,” he explained in an interview earlier this year.

DonInLondon - Day In the Life of a Recovering Alcoholic. Being in recovery from alcohol has helped me reclaim my life. Alcoholics Anonymous is integral to my ongoing recovery. I have a new life and better choices because I keep safe and in good company and in contact with fellows in recovery.

Today I have life choices, something I had missed for a long time. This is a personal journey, I may share about AA, I never speak for AA, just for myself. Long may it be so a day at a time.
